Pricing Information

Base Rate: The base rate is $350, which includes me traveling to your desired location (within 20 miles from Scotch Plains, NJ)* and Photographing for two hours. How these two hours are spent is entirely up to you. I can photograph just one child or several, or perhaps the whole family, the decision is yours. It also includes all of the high resolution Photographs burned onto a CD for you to keep. In addition, you will receive a Digital Photo Gallery for quick and easy review of the photo shoot. You will also receive between two to four 6" X 4" prints, and between one to two 9" X 6" prints. These prints are complimentary and are chosen by me. Additional prints may also be purchased afterwards for an additional cost. (see below for print prices) Every photo is reviewed personally by me and enhanced in my Digital Darkroom. You can expect anywhere between 40 to 80 finished Photographs on your CD(s). If you so desire, I am available to spend additional time Photographing your child/children. Each Photographic hour beyond the base two hours is charged at $75 per hour.

*Locations which are further than 20 miles from Scotch Plains, NJ are billed at $0.50 per mile.

Print Prices: The prints I offer are professionally printed by me, using an Epson Stylus Pro 4000 ink jet printer using Ultra Chrome inks. I use an Ultrasmooth Fine Art Matt Paper which is 100% cotton hot pressed and Acid free, and pH buffered to preserve the prints. The combination of this paper and the use of Ultra Chrome inks makes these prints truly archival, and ensures that they will be around for generations to come.

24" X 16" - $40
18" X 12" - $25
12" X 8" - $20
9" X 6" - $15
6" X 4" - $8

Framing: I also offer framing services. The frames I offer are made out of ash wood, and are black in color. They are 1.375" thick (the part that sticks out from the wall) and have a .75" front edge (the part before you can see the matting through the glass). I use black as it tends to let the print do all the "work", and can usually coordinate with almost any room decor. The frames come ready to hang and are backed with craft paper to protect the print from outside air polution. They also have two rubber "dots" to protect your wall from scuffing. On the framed prints, I use an 8 ply 100% rag, acid free mat board. This is twice as thick as the typical mat board you will normally come across. This thicker mat board creates a deeper bevel and sets the prints off nicely. Framing prices are as follows:

18" X 24" Framed and Matted Print - $125 (Used with an 18" X 12" print size, which is included in this price)

16" X 20" Framed and Matted Print - $95 (Used with a 15 " X 9.75 " print size, which is included in this price)

11" X 14" Framed and Matted Print - $65 (Used with a 10 " X 6.5 " print size, which is included in this price)

How the Process Works

Loading and Sifting: After your child's/children's 2 hour photo session I load all of the high resolution Photographs from the camera into the computer. At this stage the pictures are raw untouched files that need to be gone through to determine which Photographs are the "keepers". The image at your right illustrates a small portion of the "sifting" process. This can be a long process due to the amount of pictures I take in that 2 hours (usually between 200-350). Since I only want to deliver the highest quality Photographs to you, I weed out the pictures which may be slightly out of focus, or where your child's eyes are closed, or the exposure was off etc. This ensures you receive only the best images from the photo session.

The Digital Darkroom:
Once the "keepers" have been chosen, the next step is to enhance those Photographs in my Digital Darkroom. The images at your left illustrate the difference between an image straight from the camera, and one after it has gone through enhancement. This step is very important to furnishing you with the best images possible. Notice how the enhanced image has been cropped slightly, how the colors are more lively and vibrant, the overall image is brighter and cleaner, and also that it is sharper as well. This step can sometimes make the difference between an average photo and an exceptional one. This is also the step where I may decide to convert the color image to Black and White or leave it in color. Sometimes certain photos "work" both ways and sometimes not. If you get your Digital Photo Gallery and see an image that is in color, but you would like it in Black and White, that's no problem at all. Just give me a call and let me know which one(s) you want converted and I can email you the conversions.

The Digital Photo Gallery: Once all the "keeper" images have been enhanced, I then create a Digital Photo Gallery. This is a small web based file that will open using any standard web browser. Every computer comes with a web browser, so there is no software to load. The Digital Photo Gallery enables you to quickly and easily review the best images from your child's/children's photo session. All the images are along the bottom which you can scroll through. When you want to see a slightly larger version of the thumbnail, you simply click on that thumbnail and the larger version will appear in the upper window. If you decide to make your own prints, either at home or at a commercial lab, you simply note the image name, located to the right of the large Photo window, or right underneath the thumbnails, so that you can grab the high resolution version of it. The photos in the web gallery are only for viewing on screen. If you want to print, you should do so using the high resolution images which will be in a folder on your CD(s).

The CD: One of the last steps in my workflow is to burn you a CD containing all of the enhanced high resolution Photographs, and your Digital Photo Gallery. Think of getting the high resolution Photographs as getting to keep the negatives after a non-digital photo shoot. Now you have total control over the images. On the inside of the jewel case you will find very simple directions for using your CD. Should you encounter any problems, I am always only a phone call away. I always like to personalize your CD by printing a photo of your child on the outside of the jewel case, and on the CD itself.
